A squad of nine dancers from Norwich-based Avian Dance School have qualified to represent England in the finals at the prestigious Dance World Cup in Spain this July, where over 120,000 competitors from 66 countries will compete on a global stage.
The Dance World Cup is an elite competition with intense qualification rounds. Some categories saw up to 80-90 entries, with only the top five securing a place for England.
The Avian England squad comprises Neve Bugdale (13), Bethany Hamling (12), Rosie Jones (12) Miriam Blair (12), Kyah Quinn (10), Lucie-Mae Barrs Needham (13), Lilly Owen (11), Lottie Johnstone (12) and Kida Green (12).
Squad members Lilly and Rosie were the first Avian dancers to qualify, placing third in their category with their street/commercial duet. Shortly after, the nine-strong group learned that their street/commercial routine had also qualified to compete in the finals which are taking place this year in Burgos, Spain.
This monumental experience comes at a significant cost to the dancers and their families, as each dancer must fund their journey themselves. Expenses include squad uniforms, additional training sessions, travel and accommodation, competition entry fees and costumes.
To support these inspiring young athletes in achieving their dreams, Avian Dance School will be hosting multiple fundraising initiatives over the coming months and are actively seeking sponsorships from local businesses and the community. Several levels of sponsorship are available which provide local business with brand exposure whilst also helping to cover some of the costs associated with participating in this global competition.
In addition to sponsorships, donations are also being accepted via Avian Dance School’s official GoFundMe Page (https://gofund.me/c08b328a) which has an initial target set of £5,000.
“It’s been a privilege watching these dancers grow”
Avian Dance School, founded in 2018, has grown to over 250 students with its own dedicated dance studios on Vulcan Road, Norwich. What began as a small competition team has expanded to 40 passionate dancers who compete across the country. Principals Harriet Wigger, Aimee Cooper and Lauren Stearman with their extensive teaching qualifications and stage experience, have instilled their passion for dance in the next generation, inspiring young dancers to follow their dreams.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for these young dancers and it’s been a privilege watching these dancers grow in not only technique and performance level, but also self confidence and self belief,” explains Harriet. “Supporting this group of young girls achieve their dreams is something we are truly proud of and we can’t wait to see them shine on the world stage like the stars they are!”
“We are inviting the community to rally behind them”
“Any donation, whether through participating in our fundraisers, or sponsorships, will be immensely appreciated. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings our dancers one step closer to Spain. This is an unforgettable experience for these talented young dancers. We are inviting the community to rally behind them and join us in making their dream a reality!”
