A Norfolk brewery continues to go from success to success as its list of accolades continues to grow at a rapid rate.
Grain Brewery, based in Alburgh, South Norfolk recently celebrated a double win at the East Anglian CAMRA regional heats for Cask Champion Beer of Britain and then at the SIBA Cask awards.
At the CAMRA regional heats Lignum Vitae, their gloriously hoppy British-style IPA, received gold in the British and New World IPAs category, and Slate, Grain’s smoked porter, won gold among the Strong Stouts and Porters.
The team are thrilled as Lignum Vitae already holds the title of CAMRA Champion Beer of Norfolk 2024. Brewery owner Phil Halls said: “This is wonderful news, as every cask brewery and every cask beer brewed in East Anglia is involved in the competitive process, and just to be nominated for the competition is a great achievement. We have been brewing both of these beers for a number of years and are proud that all the little improvements we make produce some great results.”
The team’s impressive success continued at the Society of Independent Brewers, East of England Cask awards. These were held at Elgoods Brewery in Wisbech where experienced beer tasters judged beers from across the East in different categories – based on appearance, aroma and taste.
Grain won Gold in their categories for their Best Bitter and Slate, both of which will now go forward to the national championship in Liverpool next year. Their other beers, Red Nelson and Lignum Vitae both claimed Silver, whilst ThreeOneSix and Blackwood took Bronze.
Grain Brewery’s taproom is open every Friday and Saturday, 12noon – 7pm at South Farm in Alburgh. On Saturday 5th October, the team will host their Hop Harvest Party at the brewery. There will be fresh hopped beer, guest beers and street food. Live music will be provided by Matt and John, and The Butcher’s Dog.
