Jack Gosling (14) from the 16th Norwich Sea Scouts, Costessey Norwich is very pleased to announce that following a 4 day expedition in August 2023, which included a 2 day hike across the Peak district, was able to fundraise £530 which he has donated between his scout group and Alzheimer’s Research UK, both receiving £265.
The Gold Memory Walk, allowed Jack to complete one of his final stages toward his Chief Scout Gold award, an award which he has been working towards since joining the Scout group aged 10 1/2, this stage of the award required Jack to plan, organise, prepare, cook and carry out at least a 2 day expedition followed by a presentation video, during the planning phase Jack decided to turn this hike into a fundraising opportunity opting to support his Scout group and following recent news of his Papa (Grandad) being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia decided to support Alzheimer’s Research UK, a fundraising page was set up to which 32 donors contributed allowing him to reach his funding target of £500.
The hike was conducted around the Edale area of the High Peak and included visits to the iconic Derwent Dam, Kinder Scout, Grindslow Knoll and miles of stunning scenery.
Jack commented “I feel incredibly proud to have raised this money for my Scouts and Alzheimer’s Research, I am really pleased to know that the money raised will be going help both my fellow Scouts and supporting research into the horrible disease of Dementia” Jack also said “ The walk was very challenging, especially those pesky midgy bug things, they got everywhere!!, standing on top of some of those mountains looking down on villages, people and animals is not something I am used to living in Norwich, it was incredible”
Jack presented a cheque to his Scout Leader Zoltan Harper following the closure of the fundraising page, Jack also received a certificate from Alzheimer’s Research UK acknowledging his donation.
Zoltan said “we are incredibly proud of Jack and all our Scouts, he is a credit to himself, care and co-operation are two of Scouting’s key values, the 16th Norwich look forward to putting the money Jack has raised to go use across all of our groups.”
“Scouting has given me so much, lots of activities, adventures and experiences I couldn’t have had, had it not been for the Scouting association, I would encourage anyone thinking about joining a Scout group, do so its fantastic, although 16th Norwich is the best!!!!” said Jack
