One of Norfolk’s most established art groups is set to stage its 205th exhibition in North Norfolk.
Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle will show more than 90 works by 24 artists in South Creake this summer.
The exhibition will feature new selected artworks and sculptures from members of the group in a variety of mediums, styles and artforms – with artworks for sale.
Sue Willmer, chairman of Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle, said: “I am very pleased that the art circle is staging this exhibition in South Creake showing a wide variety in style and content from some of our most accomplished artists.
“Visitors will have the chance to enjoy exhibits, both framed and unframed which includes a mixture of the traditional and contemporary.
“We hope that those living in the area and holiday makers will take this opportunity to visit and enjoy this exhibition, staged by one of the oldest art societies in the country.”
Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle was established in 1885 following Crome & Cotman’s famous Norwich Society of Artists and has included in its membership artists of national and international acclaim such as Sir Alfred Munnings, Edward Seago and Arnesby Brown.
It now has more than 200 members.
Artist Paul Zawadzki said: “I am very pleased to be part of this exhibition by members of Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle. It is showcasing the amazing talent of local artists so I would urge people to visit the show as well as taking the chance to enjoy the local scenery.
“I will be showing six recent pieces inspired by the Waveney Valley and the North Suffolk Coast. Working mainly in oils on canvas, with the inclusion of rusted steel as an unexpected textural element, part of my focus is concerned with coastal erosion at places such as Covehithe, where the trees remain poised and dignified on the clifftop before falling onto the beach below – reminding me of the ‘Monster Field’ photos by the artist Paul Nash.”
The group always welcomes new members from a wide diversity of genres and experience.
It offers regular events including social gatherings, demonstrations and workshops by professionals and a regular life drawing class as well as two major exhibitions of members’ work each year.
The exhibition at South Creake Hall will run from Friday 25th August until Friday 1st September, open from 11am to 4pm daily.
