One of the biggest contemporary art fairs outside of London is returning to Norwich later this year – and to mark their tenth anniversary they have announced a new venue and dates for 2024.
Art Fair East annually hosts artists, galleries and art dealers from across the world and, for the last nine years it has taken place in the spectacular setting of St Andrew’s Hall, in the city. With the historic venue closed for a multi-million pound revamp, this year’s Art Fair East will take place at The Assembly House, a Georgian gem located in the heart of Norwich.
Organisers have also announced that the event will take place a month earlier than usual, from Friday 8th until Sunday 10th November 2024. Attracting thousands of visitors each year, the standout event in the area’s cultural calendar is a key meeting point for art lovers and buyers
The event is organised by leading Norfolk-based artists Will Teather and Brian Korteling. The pair are passionate about bringing contemporary art to the region, supporting artists and creating a buzz around the visual arts.
Will Teather said: “With the Halls being renovated throughout 2024, we cast out our net for a new city centre venue. We love to use beautiful buildings with their own history and cultural backstory – The Assembly House was the perfect choice. The stunning Georgian setting will make our 2024 event unforgettable.
“The Assembly House has hosted many exhibitions over the years, including some of my early shows, but it is the first time that so much of this fabulous building has been turned over to a large-scale art fair, one which will bring both regional and international talent to the city.
“We are hugely grateful to Richard Hughes and the rest of The Assembly House team for bending over backwards to make this possible and will make our tenth year of running the event particularly special.”
The event will take place across the venue, including the Noverre Ball Room, The Music Room and the Hobart Room.
Richard Hughes, Chef Director at The Assembly House, said: “The Assembly House is proud to support one of the largest and liveliest arts events in our region and we can’t wait to showcase some wonderful artwork in our fabulous Georgian building in the heart of Norwich.
“We are looking forward to the House becoming a giant art gallery and bringing such a varied and exciting art fair to the city. The Assembly House has played host to countless exciting events over the centuries, including art exhibitions and we are excited to be part of another.”
As the major art fair for the East of England Art Fair East brings together both talent from the Eastern Region and international names, with work to suit all tastes and budgets.
One of the unique aspects of the event is the chance for visitors to meet many of the artists and experts in person, with many present throughout the weekend.
Artist Jade Kerri said: “Art Fair East has such a wide range of talented artists exhibiting in a beautiful venue, the event brings in quality customers looking for original artwork.
“I’m thrilled to be part of it again for 2024, and taking on a bigger stall this time for my larger artwork is exciting. I had a successful fair last year, I enjoyed getting to know all the artists around me and it had a sense of community which was comforting whilst showcasing your art to the general public.
“The fair is well organised and everyone I spoke to had such a great visit. I’d highly recommend the event this year to all.”
This year’s fair will run from 8th – 10th November at The Assembly House in Norwich.
Art Fair East is sponsored by Musker McIntyre and Chadwicks. The 2024 fair sees The Assembly House kindly join the event as venue sponsor.
